چکیده
The presence of porosity within magnesium-based orthopaedic implants is known to be beneficial, promoting cell proliferation and vascularisation. However, the increases surface area available for corrosion, compounding issue high corrosion rates which has long been plaguing materials. This work looks at influence hydroxyapatite phosphate conversion coatings on performance conventionally cast, dense Mg-Zn-Zr alloys binder jet additive manufactured porous scaffolds. coating was found more effective than scaffold, with discrepancies attributed both microstructure geometric manufactured, not only rate hydrogen evolution but also reduces ability gas generated pore channels escape sample’s surface. restricts effectiveness application Mg scaffold. Furthermore, limited diffusion can result in differing localized environments, causing between localised environment that bulk electrolyte.

Surface modification of interconnected porous scaffolds.
Surface properties of scaffolds play an important role in cell adhesion and growth. Biodegradable poly(alpha-hydroxy acids) have been widely used as scaffolding materials for tissue engineering; however, the lack of functional groups is a limitation. In this work, gelatin was successfully immobilized onto the surface of poly(alpha-hydroxy acids) films and porous scaffolds by a new entrapment pr...

Advanced tissue engineering (TE) technology based on additive manufacturing (AM) can fabricate scaffolds with a three-dimensional (3D) environment suitable for cartilage regeneration. Specifically, AM technology may allow the incorporation of complex architectural features. The present study involves the fabrication of 3D TE scaffolds by an indirect AM approach using silk fibroin (SF). From sca...
متن کاملDesigning heterogeneous porous tissue scaffolds for additive manufacturing processes
A novel tissue scaffold design technique has been proposed with controllable heterogeneous architecture design suitable for additive manufacturing processes. The proposed layer-based design uses a bi-layer pattern of radial and spiral layer consecutively to generate functionally gradient porosity, which follows the geometry of the scaffold. The proposed approach constructs the medial region fro...
متن کاملPreparation of porous hydroxyapatite scaffolds
In this work, the sintering and grain growth of hydroxyapatite green bodies are analyzed in order to identify the optimum heat treatments for the preparation of porous hydroxyapatite scaffolds. Sintering in air at temperatures ranging between 1100 and 1200 °C yields dense materials with narrow grain-size distributions. The scaffolds are formed by the infiltration of polymer foams with hydroxyap...

Porous bone tissue engineering scaffolds were fabricated using both nano hydroxyapatite (nano HA) powder (20 nm average particle size) and micro HA powder (10 microm average particle size), resulting in sintered scaffolds of 59 vol% porosity and 8.6 +/- 1.9 microm average grain size and 72 vol% porosity and 588 +/- 55nm average grain size, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy was used to ...
